This drawing explores the natural structure of a pinecone, focusing on hatching line weight and the use of negative space. Using the white on the colored paper, this shows that light can be drawn in.

Reflection

This project challenged me more than I expected. The pinecone’s geometry made me struggle, especially the way its scales spiral and overlap it was difficult to capture in a way that felt accurate. I struggled a lot with getting the proportions and angles right, and I restarted the drawing multiple times. There were moments I had to take breaks just to reset mentally, because it felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere.
